New House - Part 1
Busy week!
What a busy week back in the grind!
Work is crazy, interior painting has begun at the house, and I'm trying to stick to my resolutions! Starting is always the hardest part.
I'm joining a local gym and starting my workouts tomorrow night! Bootcamp here I come!
In addition to my general daily musings, I'm posting my daily diet - simply to help me track my habits!
Today's Diet:
AM - venti black eye whole milk misto (I had to be at work for 7am!)
(skipped breakfast, really bad)
LUNCH - small salad with vinegarette, veggie lasagna, 1 slice whole grain bread
SNACK - 2 clementines
DINNER - we're eating out tonight with my husband's boss and new co-worker who are visiting from out of town. I've already looked at the menu for the restaurant we're planning to have dinner at. My thought is fish or the steak frites, no frites and a arugula salad instead. Fingers crossed.

So much for 30...here comes 31!
Happy new year!
I definitely failed with my 30 resolutions - some of them were achieved, but looking back at "the list" today, I realized how broad and vague some of my resolutions were.
Here's what I did manage to achieve:
6. Watch a movie I've always wanted to see
Recently my husband and I watched Casablanca...loved it. The dialogue was great and I didn't realize what a spy movie it was!

14. Pick strawberries and make jam
I loved this - my mom & I picked delicious strawberries at A&M Farms near our house and made 2 types of strawberry jam - sugar free and LOADs of sugar! Delicious!
24. Do something daring & dangerous
We bought our first house! We love it...needs some work but everything is in shape and plenty of room to grow. The best part for us is what's outside of the house - a big yard and within walking distance to a main-street district with shops & restaurants, it's right on the Little Miami River and a skip & hop from the bike trail!

28. Be more loving towards those I love
26. Spend more time with friends
What else can I say!
21. Spin
LOVED it and this is my #1 workout for 2011...low impact, high sweat. Besides swimming, this is one of my favorites.

It was a crazy year though, we traveled to Hawaii in February for a beautiful vacation...we balanced the craziness of Honolulu with the peacefulness of Kaui. I can't wait to go back!

We also headed down to Hilton Head for 4th of July, and in December bought our new house! Looking forward to this year, 2011, I want to have resolution(s) that are much more solid and attainable.
2011 Resolutions - only 3!
#1 - I will become healthy and strong and I will stay healthy and strong.
Right now my goal is to feel better but it's also nice to have a weight goal as well - mine is to lose 10 to feel better, and to lose 10 more to be a lean, mean machine!
How will I do it?
#1 Exercise.
I really need to establish a routine!
* Bootcamp 1 night/ week
* Yoga 2 days/ week
* Spinning 2 days/ week
#2 Diet.
Can't forget the diet! When I say diet, I mean eating habits.
I'd much rather eat food as "fuel" for my body than say "I am not eating bread or sugar."
I'm focusing on lean proteins, such as fish and chicken, as well as fruits & veggies. I love good food and need to think more about the benefits of eating locally and eating smart than eating food that is indulgent ALL the time, like the Jelly Belly Buttered Popcorn jelly beans I love or potato chips!
#2 I will follow the Five Agreements in my daily life.
A good friend recommended this book and I have been blown away by don Miguel Ruiz's words -
1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
3. Don’t Make Assumptions
4. Always Do Your Best
5. Be Skeptical, But Learn to Listen
#3 I will capture my thoughts weekly in my blog - at least 5 days/ week.
This may be the hardest!
That's that...happy new year to everyone and I can't wait to see what the year will bring!

#25 - Remember NOLA
It feels like going home.
That's the only way I can describe how I feel about NOLA, every time I return I am head over heels for the city.
Over St. Patty's Day weekend I had the opportunity to make a quick trip down to New Orleans to visit my little sister and catch some cabbage.
Here's some of my favorite things from the trip:
Loyola University New Orleans
My alma mater, an amazing Jesuit institution on St. Charles, right next door to Tulane and across from Audubon Park.

The Daiquiri Shop
Many, many memories I have of this little shop at the corner of St. Charles & Carrollton. Parking is tough, but it's essential for a warm evening and prepping for parties!
ACME Oyster House
I had never been here until this trip (I guess that shows how UN-tourist I am) - good, but you can get Louisiana oysters anywhere & everywhere. A dozen on the half shell with 2-3 Abita Strawberries, and this one one happy girl! Jacquie had a fried po-boy and cup of gumbo combo which looked delicious!
Cafe Du Monde
Yes, it's mandatory. I can't begin to explain how delicious the beignets are, always hot & always amazing. This time I opted for the hot cafe au lait (usually go for the iced), and I have to say it was better hot. YUM. Restraint is key here.
Magazine Street
Dirty Coast - great tees, you can see them on "Treme" once in a while - collectable for sure.

The Creole Creamery
Fun addition to the Prytania shops, this ice cream parlor was delicious!
WOW, I can't remember what flavor I had, but check out their site.
http://www.creolecreamery.com/
Prytania Theatre
Fun theatre with loads of history - the only single screen theatre in Louisiana and the OLDEST operating theatre in New Orleans.
Jacquie & I lucked out with "Alice in Wonderland 3D" - fun!

Rue de la Course
Coffee here is a must - two locations, one on Magazine & one on Carollton, both draw college students & locals for their amazing iced au lait.
To sum up my adoration, Ken Ringle of the Washington Post summed it up best after Katrina with his commentary "Star Crossed Times for the Crescent City".
How could they understand your love for a city in which life itself is an art form and the poorest, least privileged inhabitant a knowledgeable artist?

For those of us lucky enough to have come of age in New Orleans -- even more than for the tourist who falls for her instantly -- the decadent majesty of the city is like a forbidden love. You want desperately to explain the depths of your enchantment, but you know in your heart that others will acknowledge it merely as an easy infatuation or a passing fling. You know they will never awaken at night drunk on the coffee-and-banana fragrance of her docks or the beery sweat of her pre-dawn streets or the humid hum of her streetcar summers. How could they ever understand the depth of your passion?
How could they understand your love for a city in which life itself is an art form and the poorest, least privileged inhabitant a knowledgeable artist?

Sunny Day
Wow. After a full weekend of rain, it's a beautiful day.
I love spring days in Cincinnati. The hills are covered in blooming trees and the air smells like honeysuckle driving down Columbia Parkway.
We didn't have that much of an exciting weekend.
Aagan Indian with my mom & dad then Costco and a trip to Jeffersonville outlets on Saturday followed by a full day of cleaning Sunday.
Made some delicious food for the week though!
Moroccan Chicken

http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/moroccan_chicken_with_lemon_and_olives/
Salmon Salad - we're hooked on this healthy lunch!
- 1 large can salmon, take out the bones
- 2 tablespoons capers
- 3 tablespoons (or to taste) Greek Yogurt Plain
Daal, Saag, and Radish Achar - our Nepali fix for the week!
It's so nice to take the time on Sundays to do this & have options for meals throughout the week - I think it helps us to keep track of what we are eating & stay stress free from having to plan on a Wednesday night.
Enjoy.
